A Guilty Pleasure!!!

| This book is a guilty pleasure! The negative reviewers are, I am sad to say, correct about the downfalls of the story...Bella does love Edward at the expense of her life, her needs, her desires, and she plays the helpless victim role over and over. Edward is domineering and controlling of her, and the anti-feminist themes that this creates make me cringe. Therefore, I could see this book being harmful for anyone who does not have a very good sense of self. But if you know who you are and what you stand for, this book will do no harm to you. I read this book in 4 days and loved every minute of it! I think that in order to really enjoy this book, you need to frame it as a fantasy, because that is what it is. It is a hot, passionate fantasy made even hotter by the fact that all of Edward and Bella's physical contact has an edge of danger. This book is oozing with passion, and I love love loved it! Yes, girls, we do not need to be saved by a man, but darn it it sure is romantic! I think that the draw of this book, for me, was the way it made me feel when reading it. As strong and independent women who can support themselves in the world on our own, we have been taught to be skeptical or to even avoid the idea that we need love to complete us, that we can't live without love, that sometimes we need to be rescued. However, I think that women also need to remember that we are women, we are feminine, beatiful, and part of feminism means that we have the right to make our own choices, and if we want to fantasize about true love and being rescued, that is our perrogative. This book helped me to reconnect with that part of my feminity, and that I think is what I really loved about it. This is also probably the same reason that I liked the movie Pretty Woman, and that I sometimes secretly watch the Girls Next Door on E. I have already ordered books 2 and 3 and look forward to reading them. |
Bella is a great character!

I really connected with Twilight! It's such a relate-able love story! There are tons of things that I could relate to in this book.
Like Bella, I too moved to a new place and I know just how annoying it is when everyone tries to include you and be nice to you. It's like they just can't understand how shy you are. I mean they all wanted to be my friends but I didn't really want to, (Some of them are kind of ugly, anyway!) I didn't really like them. And then I met my boyfriend and from then on I didn't have to worry about that at all!
My boyfriend knows me very well, he knows to never let me drive and he rarely lets me hang out with my friends. (I don't want to anyway, my Boyfriend is all I need! Ever!) He even says funny things about how stupid and uncreative I am-I mean sometimes they hurt but I know he's totally joking! And my favorite part about him is how he's always talking about how dangerous he is! What a thrill! I mean sometimes he loves me and then the next day he's moody and distant-It's not a problem though because even though we've only known each other for a little bit and I'm 17, he totally will love me forever and this is the most real love I have ever felt. When he leaves me I can't do ANYTHING, I'm DEVASTATED! I just want to curl up and die! My Dad told me that was unhealthy, but what does he know anyway? My life is my Boyfriend :(!
My boyfriend is just like Edward! I'm happy that girls everywhere are idolizing him and want their own Edward- Don't worry, he's out there somewhere! (I mean, girls are leaving their boyfriends for Edwards but I know we can separate Fantasy from Reality...right? You obviously can't marry a VAMPIRE!!)
I'm glad that even women in their 40's view Bella and Edwards relationship as true love! No faults at all! Also I'm glad that 40 year old women are acting just like us teenage girls again, I mean :P Come on! Jacob is hot! Who cares how young he is? That's only wrong when you're a young GIRL being viewed in a sexual manner by older people! Ewwww! |
It's my new favorite book.

| When I first picked up this book, I wasn't expecting much, just another book that would just sit on the shelf collecting dust. But when I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It's one of those books that you can really feel like you're in the book. I loved the book so much, I was sad when it ended, I wanted to read more. Then ending almost killed me, I want to know what happened! But I heard there is going to be a sequal so that will be better. All I have to say, is its a really good book, and if you havn't read it, you should. |

Though this book is marketed as a Teen Read it is great for readers of all ages.
Vampire books are not always my top pick, but this is one of the best books I have ever read in a long time.
I strongly recommend this book... |

| All I can say is: OH.MY.GOD. It was wonderful. I laughed, I cried, I read it ten times. I have never read a vamp. book as good as this one. Anne Rice writes wonderful books- but this one is just so modern that it's easier to relate to. Thats all there is to it: this book is fantastic. Just have to say- I can't wait to read it again. Favorite line: "As if you could outrun me!" |

| I read Twilight before all of the hype, before anyone even knew that Stephenie existed. I went to a book signing not long after the book was released and there were only about twenty people there but the second time I saw her a few years later there were upwards of 400 people! When I first read this book I wrote the following review: This book was recommended to me by a friend, and her description was so intriguing that I ordered it right away and I must say that I was far from disappointed. From the time I turned the first page I was hooked and I'm afraid it may have affected my ability to study for finals because I was so wrapped up in the book, staying up to all hours of the night to read. I absolutely loved the characters, Edward in particular. He was so smooth and perfect, exactly the way I would imagine a vampire. I also thought that Bella was very easy to identify with. The ending was wonderful and left me wanting more, I can't wait until New Moon is released! I loved the romance as well, the forbidden love. This is a wonderful story and I highly recommend it, even if you are someone who tends to shy away from vampires or scary stories. However, since then I have been forced to change my opinion, all the publicity and attention Twilight has received has ruined the series for me completely! I despised the movie version mostly because of the terrible casting choices and all of the Twilight merchandise has begun to get on my nerves. Still, I thought that this book deserved a little more than my current jaded view, which is why I added my initial reaction to it. |
The best vampire love story ever

I have read a lot of vampire fiction and the romances are the best. Who can resist the lure of the untouchable? I went into my local Barnes & Noble last week looking for my weekly dose of supernatural romance and as I was leaving, the cashier grabbed my hand and said "you have to read this book called Twighlight, I've made all of the employees here read it". So I was game but a little disappointed that the book was in the young adult section of the store. What a wonderful surprise. It was a middle aged woman who suggested the book, so I figured on a lark that I would give it a chance. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! Twighlight is a large book but I think I read the whole thing in about four hours flat. I hope there is a sequel so that we know what happens between Bella and Edward because there is just so much unresolved and still so much to be explored. These are the ultimate star-crossed lovers and I was glad to live in their world for just a little bit.

OK, in reference to what someone else wrote about Bella being so normal and everything, not having anything special about her. I think that was the author's point. In the beginning of the book Bella points out that, " if she looked like a girl from Phoenix should, she could have worked it to her advantage. But physically, I'd never fit in anywhere. I should be tan, sporty, blond, - a volleyball player, or a cheerleader perhaps- all the things that go with living in the valley of the sun."
The author meant to make her somewhat normal I think. I mean Bella did not expect to be crowded around every day with boys asking her if she wanted to go to a dance. She was NORMAL. And that was what made it special. She didn't epect to fall in love with a NON NORMAL person, a vampire.
I think that's the point. It was a good book. |
Very interesting...

It had been a while since I actually read a book from the teen section of the bookstore. I must admit that getting older involves a great deal of marauding through stacks of books in many other sections besides this one. The search for interesting books is much difficult and more time consuming, however, it is all the more rewarding when you do come across exactly what you were looking for.
I was very surprised when I actually came across this book and was touched by how familiar it was to me when I read the inside cover. I was so excited to find a book that resemled greatly the books that I had read when I was fixated on young adult novels. I had stopped being interested in those and had moved on to more mature work, such as classics, of course, and modern works on literature and science fiction...since I must admit,sci-fi is my preference. The reason behind my change in book preference was that I felt that no more books in that young adult section interested me anymore. I also felt that the new books weren't as eye catching as the books once used to be. I had come to believe that I was completely done with the young adult books, having read all the books that seemed to interest me. However, finding this book has lead me back to the young adult section of the bookstore and it has helped me to realize that the world of young adult novels is not completely deminished.
In reading this book, I have recovered that interested that would inspire my walk to the back of the bookstore to find works that were categorized as young adult. I had left thinking that I would never again find myself in that area. However, there I was, after reading about this book on this very site. I found myself unable to stay away and had to read it.
Now as for my opinion on the book, Twilight is a complete delight to read. For being a work about a completely unrealistic subject, all of the characters seemed so real in the deliverance. I felt that, even though Edward was a vampire, he acted more "normal" than a lot of vampires portrayed in works. Even with his unnaturally good looks and strange powers, you still feel that he could be someone, of flesh and blood, and that he could no sooner walk right into your life and charm you. Isabella is a pleasure to get to know. Hearing the story from her point of view is a real treat, since the very character is completely ridiculous with her akwardness and clumsiness, however, at the same time we can all be envious of her undeniable beauty and inner-strength. She is the very life of the work, with her open attitude and steadfast opinions.
I would encourage people to read this book. It is well worth your while because it is truly a great story. It may, at times, seem unoriginal, with the cliche of the "girl-meets-boy-but-can't-be-with-him-because...", however the story is truly intriguing and one gets caught up in the innocent, yet completely dangerous relationship that is the love between Edward and Isabella.
My one complaint though, even though I do give five stars,is that the author did not do so much character development with the supporting cast. I would love to hear more about the rest of the Cullen family, especially Alice, who is my personaly favorite. I would like to get the chance to see the story from another point of view at some point. However, it is still a great read. Thankfully, I have discovered that this book is the very beginning of a trilogy of books that the author created, so I am very much looking forward to contributing more money to this authors pocket by buying the rest of her books when they are released. : ) |

| I stayed up until 4am because I had to finish reading this book. Twilight is so capturing, that I refused to put the book down. Somehow you fall in love with Edward, even though he is intensly scary at some points. If you want a book that will keep you guessing until the last page I highly recommend Twilight. |

| I can't explain how much I loved this book. All the other vampire books I've read are pretty predictable. This one wasn't. Stephanie Meyer's idea of what a vampire is like is much more interesting than all the myths. I absolutely love it. I got so caught up in this book that I was so sad when it was over. I was very happy to hear that she would be writing sequels though. This is a dangerous love type of book. I would definately reccomend this to teens who like romance and fantasy. |

| This is my favorite book. After reading DRACULA by Bram Stoker, I got interested in this fantasy of vampires. I love this novel because it includes action and romance. I could not put this book down at all; I was supposed to be doing my work, yet all I could think about was this book and the need to finish it. I can't wait for the sequel, NEW MOON!!! |

I just finished reading this book today (I started yesterday) and this is one of the best books I have read about vampires. I have to say that Mrs. Meyer did and excellent job creating her own view of vampires, it's not everyday you see creativity in a stereotypical topic such as vampires. I loved the story of romance it made me feel as if I wanted to be Bella (i really do). This has been beautifully written and i absolutely cannot wait for the sequel entittled "New Moon". I just hope it lives up to the greatness that this book has earned.

| OK, first to get this out of the way. I am 30 years old and ordered this book for a friends daughter for Christmas, but it didnt get here before Christmas. So, since I had bought another gift for her, I now had a book. I will admit that I am already a Vampire fan, you know, Buffy & Angel. : ) But I never dreamed I would love this book so much. I read it in 1 week. Which is incredible for me. I work full time but found that I carried the book to work with me to sneak and read it every spare chance I could if my boss was out!! This book is great. I plan to let my friends daughter borrow it to read, but I want it back bcs I know I will be reading it again! |

I found this book after my friend found it as a brand new library book. She let me read the introduction and then took it away. I was hooked by the first paragraph. After she returned it i immediately I took it out on a Friday morning. I was finished with it Saturday night the next day. It is so hard to believe someone can write something this well detailed and thought out.
I spent the next week re-reading it and using every minute I had deciphering some of the chapters. One my other friends soon caught on that I had a good book and got a copy. Now half the kids in my class have read it. This story puts a new twist on the old tale of vampires, a kinder way at looking at them. I can't wait til the next one by the author.

| Vampires stores have always fascinated me. Not the stereotypical guy, in a black cape yelling "I want to suck your blood.", but stories that fit more into real life. So as soon as I saw that it was a love story that involved a vampire, I was instantly intrigued. I started reading this book, and could'nt stop. I mean I could NOT stop. The night I started reading it, I was up untill two o'clock in the morning reading it, then when i realized I had to get up at 6, I forced myself to go to sleep. I finished the book the next night, and could not get it off my mind. This book is amazing, and is the perfect love story. With most stories that involve romance, there is, if only a hint of it, a sexual theme involved. This book explores the other side of romance. The intellectual side. Before Edward and Bella (the two main characters) ever even touch one another, they connect so deeply that they already have a love for eachother. When they do finally touch, it's so innocent, but still sends their emotions on a rollercoaster. This book is definitly a must read, and has gone on my list of favorite books. And to clear up some confusion, there is a sequel coming out (and one after that) and who knows how many books after that. This info can be found on Stephanie Meyer's website. |

Okay, so one of my best mates showed me this book and I read about the frist two chapters before she spazed because she hadn't finished reading it yet. So being as impatient as I am when it comes to books, I went and bought it myself. And I am proud to say that I read it about 6 times during that month. It really is addicting, after you read it the first time you are drawn into reading it again. I have intorduced this book to a few of my friends and they have all become just as absorbed as I am.
Anyway. I can't wait for the Next one. |

This has to be one of my favorite books of all time. It's such a wonderful story about Isabella, a 17 year old junior trying to find her place in the strange new, unfamiliar town of Forks, Washington, where she moves to with her father, leaving her newly-wed mother behind. The first day attending her new school, she is entranced by mysterious Edward Cullen, a beautiful outcast whose family and himself stick out in the small town because of their beauty. She soon comes to find that he's a vampire-a good one, whose diet does not consist of human blood, a norm for most vampires. They become so deep in love that nothing can tear them apart, until a rival vampire clan goes after Bella.
This book will have spellbound up until the very last page. If you like this series, I also recommend you read the Mediator series, by Meg Cabot.
